Enhancing Practical Mastercam Training Capacity for Lecturers at Ly Tu Trong College
As part of a series of activities supporting the educational community and building high-quality human resources, 3D Smart Solutions recently successfully organized a completely free training program for 26 lecturers from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Ly Tu Trong College, Ho Chi Minh City.
The core objective of the project is to update the Mastercam training program – CNC machining programming according to current industrial standards. By providing access to advanced machining techniques such as Mastercam 2026, the project helps bridge the gap between theory and practical production, thereby equipping students with practical working skills that closely meet human resource demands in the digital age.
Training Challenges at Ly Tu Trong College
Prior to implementing the project, the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Ly Tu Trong College faced several challenges that needed to be resolved to improve training quality:
- The gap between theory and practice: Traditional teaching programs lacked a connection with actual operational processes at enterprises, requiring the integration of production processes into lectures to replace overly academic teaching methods.
- The need for advanced technical upgrades: The teaching staff needed to move beyond basic operations to master advanced machining algorithms in order to meet modern industrial standards.
- Standardizing teaching methods: The school and its affiliated partners required highly applicable teaching methods, ensuring control over the output quality of lecturers through practical assessments.

3DS focused on enhancing the professional capacity of lecturers in the Mechanical Engineering Faculty through a practical training roadmap on Mastercam software, specifically:
- Building a roadmap & practical training materials: Designing a teaching curriculum that closely combines theory and practice using Mastercam software.
- Technology transfer & professional mentoring: The 3DS engineering team directly participated in teaching, guiding lecturers on how to access new technologies and operate according to industrial standards instead of merely stopping at theory.
Implementation Roadmap
1. Current situation assessment:
The 3DS engineering team worked directly with the Mechanical Engineering Faculty to evaluate the current capacity of the 26 lecturers. The survey results served as the basis for developing training content, ensuring the topics closely followed real-world needs.
2. On-site training (June 24-25)
3DS organized a CNC machining programming course using Mastercam. Lecturers received direct guidance through situational exercises, focusing on coordinate setup skills, toolpath optimization, and handling technical errors in CNC machine operation. At the end of the course, lecturers completed a final practical exercise to evaluate the results, ensuring they met the training standards required by the College and CITARES.
3. Process observation at 3DS (June 26)
Lecturers directly observed the production operation processes at the 3D Smart Solutions headquarters. Thanks to this, they clearly understood enterprise requirements to adjust their lectures, helping students get accustomed to real-world work earlier.
The Mechanical Engineering Faculty at Ly Tu Trong College was provided with the latest genuine version of Mastercam software, ensuring powerful features that fully support requirements from design to CNC machining.
